I have, and all psychiatrists have depressed
patients that do not respond to any
pharmacological approach.Some refuse ECT, and,
recently one of my patients did not respond to ECT
either, and the depression has lasted for a few
years.VNS is at present his only possible alternative.
If the literature indeed confirms the usefulness
of VNS in a number of cases, we would expect an
approval for this therapeutic modality.
