NBC 10’s Barbara Morse Silva reports on the Vagus Nerve Stimulator.
It involves implanting a pacemaker-like device that generates pulses of electrical stimulation to the vagus nerve that leads to the brain.
After implantation, the stimulator is programmed to generate impulses of electricity at regular intervals. It’s been used successfully to treat depression, Parkinson’s disease and seizure disorders.
A 4-year-old Swansea boy is one of the youngest in the area to have the procedure done.
